When we were expecting Siri, we researched endlessly what sort of gear to get. Stroller, clothing, toys, carrying devices, chairs, etc. etc. Today Siri is 10 months old, and I will summarize what my recommendations for gear for the young child. Ones lifestyle does of course play a role in selecting what to get, so my choices reflect my interests: walking downtown, shopping, hiking on mountain roads around Bergen, and the necessity of getting up and down stairs around my house.
Here is the must have list for new parents:
- a stroller with big wheels and front wheel(s) that turn
- BPA free bottles like Born Free
- manual breast pump
- diaper bag
- carseat with base
- Stokke round bed that grows with the child
- changing station with toys close by (more on that later)
- diaper bucket that locks in the smells
- a big dresser for all the clothing you will accumulate
- a soft mat
Clothing (these are influenced by where you live and when the baby is born):
- whool bodies (start with 2)
- whool pants (start with 1)
- onesie (start with 1)
- fleeze or wool suit with two zippers to easy get in and out
Things we bought and did not use all that much:
- Baby Bjørn seat
- Carrying sling (we could never really get her to be in a good position)
- An electric pump (used it some, but could have managed with the manual one)
- 25 of the 30 stuffed animals in her room
I will add more specific info on our choices, so keep checking us out.
